Bolt, the well-known ride-hailing platform, is launching an insurance package called Entrip to prioritize safety for its riders and drivers. Bolt Kenya Country Manager Linda Ndung’u announced this initiative, which provides additional coverage in case of unexpected incidents during rides. The launch will take place either late Q1 or early Q2 2024.

The Entrip insurance package will cover riders, drivers, and passengers in the event of accidents, lost packages, and other unfortunate situations. This comprehensive approach ensures peace of mind for everyone involved in Bolt rides. Ms. Ndung’u emphasized Bolt’s commitment to safety, stating that “Safety is our priority, and we will continue to introduce features that support this.”

Bolt’s app has additional safety features, such as a Trip Safety Monitoring system, which detects vehicle stagnation during trips and prompts driver and rider inquiries about their well-being. If necessary, they can directly access emergency services, share trip details, record audio, or request Bolt assistance within the app. Another critical feature is the Driver Selfie Check, which requires drivers to take a real-time selfie before going online, ensuring that their identity matches their registered information and deterring impersonation and account sharing.

Bolt collaborates with Kenyan authorities to strengthen its safety approach. Recently, Bolt partnered with the Ministry of Transport and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to hold a driver engagement event in Nairobi. The event focused on road safety regulations, driver well-being, and responsible conduct. Ms. Ndung’u added, “These new features and partnerships demonstrate our commitment to creating a secure and transparent platform for both drivers and riders.”

These improvements come amid ongoing safety concerns in Kenya’s ride-hailing industry.
