Google Pixel 8 wins ‘best smartphone’ award at MWC 2024

On the final day of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Google’s Pixel 8 series emerged triumphant in the smartphone category, securing the prestigious Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) as the top choice. Beating out stiff competition from flagship devices like the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series, the Z Flip5, and the OnePlus Open, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro were lauded for their exceptional performance, innovation, and industry leadership by the GSMA, the organization behind the GLOMO awards. Renowned for their advanced AI-driven camera capabilities and computational photography, the Pixel series further solidified its reputation with updated camera hardware and cutting-edge generative AI-powered editing features in the latest Pixel 8 models.

While Apple and Samsung have historically dominated this award, this victory marks Google’s debut as the recipient of the top smartphone accolade. Previous winners include the Apple iPhone 14 Pro in 2023, the iPhone 13 Pro Max in 2022, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra in 2021.

In addition to Google’s triumph, Qualcomm clinched the ‘Breakthrough Device Innovation’ award for its groundbreaking Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, recognized by judges for its significant hardware and software advancements within smartphone devices.

Elsewhere, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra secured the title of ‘Best Connected Consumer Device,’ impressing judges with its seamless smartphone and PC functionalities integration into a single portable device.

Closing the curtain on major device awards, the Magic V2 RSR Porsche Edition foldable phone claimed the prestigious ‘Best in Show’ accolade for its innovative supercar-inspired design, first unveiled at MWC 2023, leaving a lasting impression on tech enthusiasts and industry experts alike.
