The IFC, International Finance Corporation which is part of the World Bank Group, has announced the 100 women selected for the She Wins Africa program. The program aims to help women-led startups in sub-Saharan Africa by providing access to capital. Out of 3,000 applicants across industries such as agritech, eCommerce, healthtech, and fintech, the top 100 women were chosen. They will receive mentorship, advice, and opportunities to pitch to investors and industry leaders.

The IFC created this program to help level the playing field for women in business since African women represent the highest percentage of female entrepreneurs worldwide. However, despite their talent, African female founders receive only about 3% of startup funding. Nathalie Akon Gabala, IFC’s Director of Gender and Economic Inclusion, is thrilled with the initiative, saying it is time for investors to step up and support women entrepreneurs.

Moreover, the program is not limited to just these 100 women; it is also helping 200 more startups where they most need it and organizing boot camps for an additional 200 startups. The IFC is also working with funds and investors to make it easier for women to get the funding they need to expand their businesses. Finally, it’s worth noting that the IFC has had previous success with a similar program in the Middle East and North Africa.
